Location Matters Does Baja (Again!)

On October 28, the Location Matters Team ventured down to Baja California following another generous invitation from Hector Bustamante and Genaro Valladolid of Baja’s largest Commercial & Residential Real Estate Brokerage, Bustamante Realty Group. Upon arriving in Baja, we visited the Bustamante offices and several new developments where we were amazed to learn how much the real estate scene is thriving in Tijuana and all over Mexico! We continued the day with a tour of the Culinary Art School before heading south for Valle de Guadalupe where we sipped on delicious wine at Finca La Carrodilla winery and Villa Montefiori, followed by an authentic Italian meal at Tre Galline. While Valle de Guadalupe is a mere hour and a half south of San Diego, you cannot help but feel you’ve been whisked away to Tuscany!

Our second day was dedicated to all things Tijuana. We had a late {taco} breakfast at El Mazateño and headed to El Centro where we got a taste of Mexican craft beer at Mamut Brewery. We explored Revolucion Ave. and several new mixed-use projects before making our way to Cine Tonalá, a hip new concept made up of a movie theater and rooftop restaurant highlighting the best of local cuisine. To satisfy our sweet tooth, we couldn’t leave without going for “pan dulce” at Panadería La Mejor, a bakery offering a wide array of Mexican pastries and breads.

While exploring and enjoying delicious food and wine was incredible, the real purpose of our trip was to educate our team on the progressive food movement and flourishing real estate market in Baja. We hope to build upon our existing relationship with Bustamente Realty Group and continue to bring hot, new restaurants across the border, as we have in the past with Javier Placencia’s uber-successful Bracero. We truly can’t thank our hosts, Genaro and Hector, enough for sharing the best of Valle de Guadalupe and Tijuana with us. We are very much looking forward to our next trip back. Salud!
